Smart Privacy Film — North West England
PriviFilm™ PDLC switchable smart film for commercial, healthcare, education, and residential projects across the North West. Enquiries are handled centrally and allocated to approved installers serving your location across Lancashire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Cheshire, and Cumbria.
Smart Film for North West Projects
PriviFilm™ PDLC switchable smart film applies to existing glass surfaces, converting standard glazing into electronically controlled privacy glass. The film is in its translucent privacy state when unpowered and changes to its clearer state through the specified low-voltage AC system; exact voltage and switching data depend on the selected grade and controller. No glass replacement is required, making it well suited to both new-build fit-outs and refurbishment projects.
Forti Nova, the UK distributor for PriviFilm™, is based in Blackburn, Lancashire. Enquiries from across the North West — whether in Manchester city centre offices, Liverpool waterfront commercial premises, Preston business parks, or residential properties across the region — are handled through the central enquiry process and allocated to approved installers according to project location and installer availability at the time.
Blackburn's position in Lancashire makes the North West a well-served region for both supply and technical support. That said, installer coverage is not guaranteed for all locations at all times. We recommend making contact early in your project timeline to confirm availability.

Where Smart Film Is Specified in the North West
Smart film is specified across commercial, healthcare, education, and residential environments throughout the region.
Commercial Offices
Meeting rooms, boardrooms, glass partitions, and reception areas across Manchester, Liverpool, Preston, Blackpool, Chester, and surrounding areas. Retrofit to existing glazing without replacement.
Healthcare Environments
Consultation rooms, clinical bays, dental surgeries, and GP reception areas. Non-porous wipe-clean surface supports infection prevention protocols. Phased installation in live environments.
Residential Projects
Bathrooms, home office glazing, garden rooms, and internal partitions across North West residential properties. Single-zone installations typically completed within a day.
Retail & Hospitality
Shopfront privacy, changing room glazing, hotel spaces, and restaurant partitions. Instant switchable privacy without permanent obscuration.
Installation Requirements for North West Projects
Key technical considerations for specifiers, project managers, and contractors.
Glass assessment before commitment
Every installation begins with a glass survey. The installer checks glass type, surface condition, existing coatings, and access. Glass must be flat, clean, and in good condition. Survey findings determine whether the project can proceed as specified or whether preparatory work is needed first.
Electrical supply and transformer
Smart film uses a transformer/controller matched to the quoted film grade and sized for the connected area. Grade-specific output and power consumption are confirmed in the project data. Transformers are concealed in ceiling voids or partition cavities. A qualified electrician must complete the mains connection and sign off under Part P regulations.
Control system specification
The control system — wall switch, remote, sensor, BMS or KNX integration — is specified before installation begins. BMS integration is standard on commercial fit-outs in Manchester and Liverpool office buildings. The control wiring route from transformer to film is planned as part of the installation design.
Edge sealing and trim
Film edges are sealed and trimmed to finish. In commercial environments, aluminium or plastic edge trim may be specified to protect film edges and provide a clean visual finish. Edge treatment is discussed at survey stage.
Occupied environments
Smart film installation can be carried out in occupied buildings. The process generates minimal noise and no significant dust or fumes. Healthcare and education environments are typically installed out of hours or in phases to avoid disruption to clinical or teaching operations.
Handover and warranty activation
Each completed installation includes a handover covering controls, cleaning guidance and the applicable written warranty terms for the selected grade, components and delivery route.
When Smart Film May Not Be Suitable
Smart film is not the right solution for every glazing project. Understanding the limitations before specification avoids programme and cost issues.
Curved or textured glass
Smart film requires a flat glass surface. Curved, bent, or textured glass is not compatible. Factory-laminated smart glass units are required for curved glazing applications.
Glass with persistent surface condensation
Uncontrolled condensation on the glass surface indicates a glazing issue that needs resolving before film can be applied. Film applied to glass with moisture problems will not bond correctly.
Existing contaminated or damaged glass
Glass with deep surface scratches, adhesive residue from previous film, or chemical contamination requires assessment. Preparation or glass replacement may be needed before film application.
No accessible electrical supply
Smart film requires a transformer connected to a 230V mains supply. Where routing electrical cable is structurally impractical or cost-prohibitive, static privacy alternatives may be more appropriate.
Permanent obscuration without power
Smart film is clear when powered and opaque when unpowered. If the requirement is permanent visual screening with no transparency at any point, frosted or manifestation film provides the same result without the electrical infrastructure.
Polycarbonate or acrylic surfaces
Smart film is designed for glass surfaces. Plastic glazing panels require specialist assessment and are generally not compatible.
Where suitability is uncertain, a site survey will confirm whether smart film can be installed as specified or whether alternative glazing treatments are more appropriate for your project.
