Smart Privacy Film — Lancashire
PriviFilm™ PDLC switchable smart film for commercial, healthcare, and residential projects across Lancashire. Forti Nova, the UK distributor for PriviFilm™, is based in Blackburn — making Lancashire one of the most directly supported counties for supply, technical assistance, and installer coordination.
Smart Film for Lancashire Projects
Lancashire's property stock spans Victorian mill conversions, period commercial buildings, modern retail and office developments, and coastal residential properties. Smart film applies to existing glass without replacement — an advantage that is particularly relevant in refurbishment scenarios where glass removal would be disruptive or expensive.
Forti Nova’s Blackburn base means Lancashire projects benefit from proximity to the UK supply and technical support function. Technical queries, site surveys, and specification support are handled directly rather than routed through a regional intermediary. Installation is allocated project by project to Forti Nova’s in-house team or a suitable trained PriviFilm Approved Installer, depending on scope, location, programme and availability.
Lancashire's commercial, healthcare, and education sectors generate genuine demand for switchable privacy glazing. GP surgery and dental practice refurbishments, school safeguarding office upgrades, Preston commercial office fit-outs, and Blackpool hospitality premises all represent contexts where smart film provides a practical, testable solution to glazing privacy requirements.

Smart Film Applications Across Lancashire
Common application contexts across the county's commercial, healthcare, residential, and retail environments.
Commercial & Office
Meeting rooms, consultation offices, glass partitions, and reception areas in Preston, Blackburn, Blackpool, Burnley, and other Lancashire commercial centres.
Healthcare & Dental
GP surgeries, dental practices, physiotherapy clinics, and private consultation rooms across Lancashire. Non-porous surface supports clinical hygiene protocols.
Residential
Bathroom glazing, home office partitions, garden rooms, and internal doors in Lancashire homes — period conversions and new-builds.
Retail & Hospitality
Shopfronts, Fylde Coast hospitality venues, hotel spaces, and changing areas. Switchable privacy without permanent obscuration.
What a Lancashire Installation Involves
Site survey first
Glass condition, type, access, and electrical supply availability are confirmed at survey stage before any installation commitment. Lancashire's mix of older and modern buildings means survey findings vary significantly between projects.
Electrical provision
A 230V mains spur is required near each transformer location. The supplied transformer/controller is matched to the selected film grade and connected to the film in accordance with the project specification. Electrical works are coordinated with a qualified electrician and certified to current regulations as applicable to the project.
Film measurement and preparation
Film is precision-cut to match glass panel dimensions. Pre-cut panels from the UK distribution facility in Blackburn reduce on-site waste and installation time. Panels are applied using a wet application process and squeegeed to remove air.
Control specification
Wall switch, wireless remote, occupancy sensor, and BMS integration are all available. The appropriate control is confirmed during the design stage, with cable routing planned before installation day.
When Smart Film May Not Be the Right Solution
Not every glazing situation is compatible with smart film. These scenarios require assessment or alternative specification.
Textured or patterned glass
Obscure glass, reeded glass, and other textured surfaces are not compatible with smart film. The film requires a smooth flat surface for adhesion. Pre-survey identification of glass type prevents abortive specification.
Previously filmed glass with residue
Old window film adhesive residue on the glass surface prevents clean bonding. Residue removal is possible in some cases but adds to preparation time and cost. This is identified at survey stage.
Persistent condensation or moisture
Interior condensation on glass may indicate frame or building fabric issues. Film applied to regularly condensating glass is likely to fail adhesion over time. The underlying cause should be resolved before installation is considered.
No accessible electrical supply
Smart film needs a transformer connected to 230V mains. In rural or heritage properties where routing new electrical circuits is impractical or not permitted, static privacy solutions may be more appropriate.
Exterior or unprotected glazing
Smart film is an interior-surface product. Direct exterior exposure or unprotected outdoor environments are outside its design parameters. Factory-laminated smart glass units are the correct specification for exterior applications.
Where permanent privacy is the only requirement
If the glazing will always need to be obscured and clear transparency is never needed, frosted film or manifestation vinyl provides the same visual outcome at lower cost and without the electrical infrastructure.
