When Smart Film May Not Be The Right Solution
Blackout required (lecture theatres, AV suites)
Smart film produces a bright frosted opacity — not blackout. Lecture theatres and AV suites requiring light exclusion for presentations need blackout blinds or motorised screens in addition to (or instead of) smart film.
Exterior glazing
Smart film is designed for interior application. Exterior building glazing requiring privacy control needs factory-laminated smart glass — a different product category.
Very high-traffic surfaces
Heavily used surfaces subject to regular physical contact (handrails, door glass in high-traffic corridors) may incur surface scratching over time. For these applications, appropriate film grade selection and edge protection are important.
Permanent privacy only
If a room requires permanent, full-time visual privacy with no need for transparency, frosted glass or static privacy film is more cost-effective. Smart film's value is its ability to switch — if that capability is never used, the premium is not warranted.
